Luckily I am not alone and there are websites popping up all the time; one stop shops to feed my curiosity. I thought I would share my current favourites.

Industry Of One focuses on exploring "the style trappings of various industries + professions and document the relationship between one's line of work + walk of life"

Visually, it's a treat.

Full of inspiring photographs and short interviews with each of 'The Makers'.

Grain & Gram - The New Gentlemens journal has interesting conversations and q+a's with some creative male folk.

A few weekends ago I decided to have a fabric clean out, but I didn't get very far as the options of what to do with it all were rather slim - Trade Me listings or chucked in a rubbish sack with some old t-shirts and off to the Salvation Army. But after making myself some fun basics, that I have been living in these past couple of weeks, I thought I would make some more to sell. It has been my weekend side-project for the past couple of weeks and there is still a lot of fabric to contend with, but I have made a dent!

I have popped a few of them on Etsy and Felt, the rest will come over the coming days as I get time to photograph them. Seeing how these starters go I may make more next weekend, it's probably not much of a clean out if they are sitting around here for too long in clothing form instead of fabric form.

They are very limited of course due to fabric lengths.
All are $33-$38 (NZD) and they may be cheap and cheerful but they are all made to usual VnB high standards. A steal.

I hope everyone had, or is still having a lovely holiday break and maybe got a little bit spoilt over Christmas. I managed to add 10 colourful Duraware trios to my collection. Super stoked and spoilt.

I do love a new year, a great time start fresh. VnB will be making some exciting and much awaited changes this year. There are a lot of lists and scribbles lying around!

Grey button scarf was featured in a top spot in an Etsy Finds Boxing Day promo email, and helped moved all but one out the door. The perfect way to say farewell to the scarves, which have been a constant in my Etsy store for the past four years!

Also happy too see my Bow Tote in the latest Frankie magazine, in lovely company.

Things have been a wee bit quiet on the VnB front, so to create some action and commemorate a recent certain scary birthday, it is GIVEAWAY TIME.

I was scratching my head trying to think what people would like to win, and since I am indecisive I came up with the perfect answer - the prize ... you choose your own prize!

I will make you a custom piece of clothing based on a past or current VnB design - meaning if you win we can chat and you can choose an existing style, size (any size!), colour, and you could even adjust the length to your liking. Fabrics may not be exactly the same if it is a past or limited run of clothing, but we can sure try, or maybe use something better!

It is not restricted to the designs in this post, they are just for good looks.

I had high expectations for Paris and it did not disappoint. It is just so madly beautiful. Everyone we talked to (or tried to talk to) was super friendly and were some of the best dressed, best looking people I have seen, darn them.

I was also pleased to see a lot of Breton stripes, and baguettes poking out of carry bags.

So, if anyone has any info or directions to point me in I would love a helping hand. My machines aren't silent, & there would definitely be old dog in the corner sleeping in his bed, so it might be a lost cause, but it's worth a shot.

We had the most amazing 5 weeks holiday. Lots of walking, photo-taking, eating, people watching, shopping, beach lazing and general tourist-ing around NYC, London, Paris and Bangkok, a wedding thrown in, a wee bit of family time and only a touch of missing the dog.

Victoria n' Bird will be up and running in the next couple of days, but I'm going to live in holiday mode until then, and share some photos, first stop NYC!

Highlights were the Brooklyn Flea - (fish tacos, vintage clothes, a great view and donuts, what's not to love?), walking Williamsburg, Shake Shack (yum), Alexander McQueen Savage Beauty exhibition (I may or may not have had the tiniest bit of a happiness cry), Top of the Rock (it was quiet and breezy, we spent a good while up there), walking Chelsea and the Meatpacking district, Magnolia cupcakes and eating Artichoke Basille's pizza on the High Line.

NYC we will be back.

New Zealand Red Cross 2011 Earthquake Appeal

The lovely city of Christchurch got hit with a terrible earthquake this week. We have all been glued to the tv watching the aftermath & wondering what we can do if we live too far away to help in person. The number one answer is a lot money is required for a variety of needs, and that is something we can all manage, even if it is only a few dollars.

The Red Cross have set up text and phone donations, details of which can be found on their page redcross.org.nz. There is also information on a number of other ways to donate and also ways to do so from other countries.

If you need added incentive, Foxes shop have set up a number of auctions on their facebook page where you can bid on lovely items and all proceeds will go directly to the Red Cross.

My Bike!

I had been drooling over lovely bikes for the longest time, but spending $900+ on a new ladies Raleigh Retroglide was a bit silly.

Then I found Lola!

She was a bargain to start with, plus she was on special! There was some public 'yay!'ing.

I have given her an un-Warehouse makeover (meaning have replaced all her hot pink parts and peeled off her many Mambo stickers) and now she is perfect and as unique as anything one buys from The Warehouse can be.
The last thing she needs is a nice basket, am keeping my eyes out for the right one.

We have already had some fun adventures, the Pt Chev to Mission Bay return trip was the most fun so far (& most tiring), and now she has been well introduced to the mean streets of Auckland. I have even re-taught myself to cycle with no hands.

Fun!

As I was stuck behind my table all day at the Akl Art & Craft Fair, I was glad to be just across the way from Devon Smith & Sarah McNeil so managed to do some quick shopping/swapping after the doors were closed.

Not just another eye-catching Dear Colleen piece, this tote bag has been designed to raise money for the Oxfam's Gulf Coast Oil Spill Response Fund. All profits (that's 100% people!) made from the sale of these bags will be donated to the charity. I love this idea and also hope it sparks the idea in other people to come up with their own ways to give using whatever skills they may have.

To make the whole thing more fantastic, if you are a wee bit skint for cash but have craftiness coming out of your fingertips you have the ability to join in the giving. Colleen has popped a high-res copy of the image up on flickr for others to use to make their own creative items, with the request you give all your profits from the sale of those items to the the charity also! I first came across Linzie Hunter's work here and very much like Sophie Blackall's work I blogged about recently I thought it was super cute and super smart - a great combination in my book.
Her website boasts a portfolio of neatness from book covers to tea-towels, but I had my eye on a spam poster and nearly purchased the 'local chicks' poster a few times but forcibly stopped myself due to lack of funds... then along came Book Depository! *insert angelic music*
We all know Book Depository has free shipping, but it isn't until you actually intend to buy something that you realise how magical that actually is, especially when shopping and shipping from New Zealand.
So Book Depository held the answer to my woes - times 30! - for only about $13NZ. Smaller than posters, but since when does size matter... which leads me perfectly to an array of visuals from my lovely new Secret Weapon Postcard Book.

& at 4.75" x 6.5" each postcard is a pretty substantial size, will work great as mini artwork!

I saved my little heart out so I could buy whatever I fancied whilst in Melbourne this last week, and I think I did good, well my top two pricey purchases were a $49au American Apparel dress and $39 op-shop blouse, so I was still thrifty so there is no post-shopping guilt. Marvellous.

Hit the sales, nothing like a bit of mainstream Sportgirl purchasing.
Needed both, in a want more than need way.

Had spend 10mins earlier looking at Princess Tina fox pouch,
so at about 1/3 of the price combined, this wallet
and keyring just made more sense.

Plastic fantastic set of trays and cups. 6 each!

Loved the colour, had to have even though were an annoying
shape/size to get home. From Chapel St Bazaar, could have spent
the day in that one shop - fabric and trims galore, shame people
know vintage fabric is so coveted, too pricey for this girl.

to try on all those basics! Got me a t-shirt dress in Ash Grey Apricot.

+ purchased a many cupcakes (cutest & loveliest place I found was Little Cupcakes on Degraves St), macarons from a handful of places, multiple snacks on cones of fries from Lord of the Fries and a cute afternoon tea High-Tea style at the NGV & we also went to Phillip Island to watch the Penguin Parade.

Have photos, will track them down, mainly graffiti and skylines though, I am a predictable tourist.

I came across Sessun on Urban Outfitters recently and decided to have a browse at their personal website & love love.
The Autumn/Winter collection is out and since I am grasping onto the colder weather - I am not ready for the impending summer brights and lights - I am loving the darker tones. The range mainly consists of basic pieces you could wear in a bunch of ways to create cuter than cute outfits, and a bunch of such ways can be found in their lookbook.

Miranda July is on my list of awesome people, some people do not agree, but then some people are weirdos. I overly recommend her books No-one Belongs Here More Than You & Learning To Love You More (both available at Akl libraries for those in the area). Her work brings me instantly back to an art school way of thinking, oh and I love it, no matter how hard I may try, it is hard to keep that thinking and that way I experience things active in my day to day life post-art school.

For the first time ever the front page on my etsy is full!
One day I'm sure i'll drift over to two pages. So the update is done, taking wayyyy-hayhay longer than it should have, a few mins to write up my descriptions, calculate pricing then waiting bout 20 mins for each set of photos to upload (I investigated and it is a common Etsy problem at the moment, so I can't really complain... well I can and I have been). But 12 listings later it has been a longggg night/next morning.

I found Kate Towers on Etsy and then made my way to her website. Her clothing is simply amazing. There are a few pieces available to purchase on Etsy, the price tags are rather high (esp in NZ$) but one can only imagine the hours some of those pieces must take to complete so I would think it would be more than worth it!
Kate was co-owner of Seaplane in Portland where her pieces are also available.

I have been on an EXTREME op-shopping roll lately! The kind that makes you want to squeal in the aisle but you don't want to alarm the other customers so they start crowding you seeing what you're looking at then secretly watching you over the racks to try and intercept you before you pick up the next item... well that would never happen, mostly since I op-shop in the middle of the day when old ladies are out in their gangs, but it does go through my mind!
I now own a too cute grey 3/4 sleeve cardi from Something Else by Natalie Wood with a lil gold heart on the pocket, and also a Something dress which was in the long sleeved tops section, oh what a find, its sparkly and has batwings. I also found a super fantastic dark blue Yvonne Bennetti dress which fits perfectly and its super brand new fancy.
I also have a 2008 Karen Walker dress with flutter sleeves, oh its bright but its magic, and a Karen Walker ruffle hem sweatshirt.
I did not just label bash it up my way around the op-shops, I have some cute new pussy bow blouses, a tie dye skirt, & a wee tooled bag which needs a touch of TLC.

I have no pictures of said clothes, but I do want to show off this super-tastic bucket bag I purchase via trademe a few weeks ago, LOVEEE IT! & it was unpopular so was super cheap to boot!

This isn't my first Lover blog post, nor I'm sure will it be the last. I can't help but want to "Memorex" the moment I witness the new lovelies. Nic Briand & Susien Chong can do no wrong. I daydream of the day I can have a wardrobe FULL of Lover clothes, oh the people would fall at my feet, jealous of my fanciness!

This week I am grateful for grocery stores and the insane amount of time they sell Easter eggs for as they all sell creme eggs... and well, we can't live without them. & I am also grateful for my apparent childish looks as they have got me out of sitting on a Jury, thank goodness! & I am grateful for Home and Away and the momentary sadness cheesy tv can bring, there's nothing like welling up with tears at the death of a make-believe character... no Jack noooo!

I think this is a super fantastic idea for people with no $$ like myself (darn these harsh times) who desperately want to help in any small way that they can and who can make things.
All money from sales goes directly to the Australian Red Cross and as there is a specific etsy shop for this it is obviously generating more sales by being a one stop shop for sales/donations!

I went missing in action for a bit there, things are cuckoo at the moment with moving house and still trying to work from home and Christmas! Oh you should see our apartment, its crazy!
I am grateful (but probably the worst timing) - I got on the front page of Etsy today for the first time!
Woooop.
I didn't actually realise but was checking my wares the easy heartomatic way and I haven't added anything new in these cuckoo times yet I noticed a super bunch of new hearts.
Lucky for the diligent people who save every front page layout - now that is cuckoo... they must have shiftworkers.
Those scarves are loved, yay.

I have most of my Christmas pressies sorted, not a lot purchased but they are planned, I will have to shop when I'm settled. There are still a couple yet to plan but am trying my best to catch glimpses of holiday junk mail and think outside the commercial square!
Though I do wish I could personal purchase a soft serve icecream maker like the one I saw in Living & Giving. It even had a sprinkles compartment! Probably would get used once and then get forgotten about... kind of like Flossy my fairy floss maker, but she is loved all the same.

I'm having Christmas pressie purchasing issues already! Too many males to buy for and no ideas.
Why oh why couldn't I have sisters - girls love random/handmade/quirky pressies WAY more!
Etsy's lovely gift guides are lovely and all, and perfect for ideas for females but I haven't found a single thing for the boys in my life.
Any helpful male pressie suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

On the upside I'm number 4 in line at the library to recieve Hello Cupcake!
Lets hope those other 3 people give up and drop out of the library race, I want that puppy before Christmas... if not theres always Borders and a notepad!

I have an extreme love/hate relationship with Urban Outfitters, I hate to love them for the fact they have too many pretty things and no stores in NZ!

I super wish for a nice nice brown shoulder bag/handbag.
I seriously need to invest in one as I must be one of the only girls in the world who doesn't own a wallet or a handbag & I think a nice bag that doesn't feel too "handbag-y" that I can put my silly coin purse, phone, keys (or key at the moment!... that's weird), notepad and stashes of chocolate in will do the trick.
Maybe I will make it a new years resolution!

I am not a big fan of the romper - think it has something to do with the name, the fact like it looks like the wearer is receiving a constant wedgie & you have to be stick thin to pull it off, BUT if you're a fan of the romper you're going to love Samantha Pleet, she does a lot of them, does them well and in a bunch of super styles.

I got to peek at the latest Russh magazine at Borders today (unfortunately I cannot justify such purchases at the moment so the 2 min looksie will have to do!) & I should always have a little notepad & pencil with me at all times as I found a bunch of stuff I wanted to remember, I forgot most things but I did remember the name of this band- Au Revoir Simone -which is always the way, I remembered the hardest to remember thing.

There are street style or people photographing themselves in their fave outfit blogs all over the show, and boy do I love them, but this one seems to have that certain je ne sais quoi where people don't look like they're trying too hard, and it just works!
Sure beats the hell out of Runway Reporter and their lackluster attempts at photographing street style... wow what a coincidence everyone you photograph is wearing at least one piece of high street NZ fashion. Not realistic in my everyday world.

So the winter cabin fever is turning to pent up frustration and anger.

Made an attempt to visit Craftwerk on Thursday night, I say attempt cause I saw (from 2 metres away) a couple of tables of crafts and gave up the ghost and went to the supermarket instead. I don't like to fight for my craft viewing, and my current winterly demeanor and the crowd were not getting along!
